The CHICAGO Card from
American Express® is designed for those with good credit who live in or
frequently visit Chicago and plan to take advantage of the various benefits and
services that are in Chicago.
In reference to the reward program, one INSIDE Rewards point is earned for every
dollar spent on general purchases. Double points are awarded for every dollar
spent on "City Essentials", which include newspaper and magazine subscriptions,
movies, dining, cell phone services, cable and dial-up ISP subscriptions, and
gym memberships. Points can be redeemed for benefits and experiences based in
Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles, such as free hotel stays, dining, and
airline travel. An added benefit is that points never expire and have no yearly
limit.
Perhaps what is most impressive about the program is the Tuesdays IN:CHICAGO
feature. Cardholders can use the card at participating merchants on any Tuesday
and get 10% off, including select retailers, spas, and health clubs. The
IN:CHICAGO Card also provides cardholders with priority access to venues such as
clubs, concerts, and more.
Aside from the reward program, this card offers a variety of standard benefits
that include travel accident insurance, auto rental insurance, and various fraud
protection services with each usage (see website for all benefits available).
The interest rate for purchases is considered reasonably low (for a reward
card), and there is no annual fee. There is also a 0% introductory rate for
purchases and balance transfers for the first six months.
Therefore, those who can afford to pay in full each month after the introductory
rate expires (to avoid finance charges), frequently stay or live in Chicago (to
earn additional points), and can accumulate enough points for dining and
entertainment experiences will benefit most from what the CHICAGO Card from
American Express® has to offer.
